Astrology is not myth, it is pure calculation

More Than Symbols and Stories

Astrology is often dismissed as myth because it is expressed through symbols, ancient narratives, and traditional language. However, its foundation includes a structured system of calculation. An astrological chart is created by determining the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, and other celestial points at a specific time and location. These positions are then arranged within a chart according to established mathematical and astronomical principles.

The Calculations Behind a Birth Chart

Preparing a birth chart requires accurate information about the date, time, and place of birth. From these details, astrologers calculate planetary longitudes, houses, angles, and relationships known as aspects. The ascendant, for example, depends on the rotation of Earth and the observer’s geographical position. Time zones, seasonal adjustments, and astronomical coordinates must also be considered. These steps demonstrate that astrology is not based solely on imagination or random symbolism.

Calculation and Interpretation

Although the calculations can be precise, astrology also involves interpretation. A chart does not speak in a single, universally accepted voice; its meaning depends on the astrological tradition, the practitioner’s method, and the context in which it is examined. Therefore, it is useful to distinguish between the mathematical construction of a chart and the conclusions drawn from it.

A Balanced Perspective

Calling astrology “pure calculation” may overlook its interpretive and philosophical dimensions. At the same time, calling it merely a myth ignores the technical process used to produce astrological charts. Astrology combines celestial measurement, geometric relationships, historical principles, and symbolic analysis. Whether one accepts its predictions or views it as a reflective tradition, its calculations are a genuine part of its practice. A balanced perspective recognizes both the precision of the method and the debate surrounding its claims.
